This book deals with how curses are perceived and combatted from the perspective of African Christians. It is very well researched and highly informative.
The African worldview is that everything that happens must have a cause because nothing happens naturally without a spiritual force behind it. This force is often seen as a curse, especially a generational curse. Many Christians believe that they can be affected by curses, too. Therefore, special deliverance services, fasting and praying (in often “special” locations) are a regular occurrence.
In contrast, Adeboye contends that “if the person is a genuine Christian and has no unconfessed, secret sins, then that Christian is not likely under any curse because curses cannot penetrate the Holy Spirit’s seal on Christians” (p. 158-159).
He also asserts that repeated failures and negative trends in someone’s life can be the result of personal recklessness and an unwillingness to take moral responsibility or something that God permissively allowed to prune his children for growth and maturity.
Reading this book can help African pastors teach how to overcome the fear of curses and put helpful practices into place.
